Lent is noticing the rainbow while walking in the desert!

 

 

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth (Genesis 9:13).

 

When I see the rainbow I am enchanted.

I feel the urge to stop and look at it, and if, after the rain comes a glimmer of sunshine, I know that surely the rainbow has formed and I look for it.

Just looking at it, with the knowledge that it is a gift to be taken on the fly!

It attracts me.

It is telling me something.

It is telling me important things. For many it is a wonder of nature, but for me it means what Jesus wanted to explain to the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta.  In fact, she writes in her diary:

The third Fiat - my ‘Fiat Voluntas Tua on earth as It is in Heaven’ - will be like the rainbow that appeared in the sky after the Flood, which, like iris of peace, assured man that the Flood had ceased. So it will be with the third Fiat. As It becomes known, and loving and disinterested souls come to live life in my Fiat, they will be like rainbows which, as irises of peace, will reconcile Heaven and earth, and will dispel the flood of so many sins that inundate the earth. These irises of peace will have the third Fiat as life; so, my ‘Fiat Voluntas Tua’ will have completion in them. The third Fiat call my Will into souls, and in them It will reign ‘on earth as It is in Heaven’.

Then, since I was sad because of His absence, He added: “My daughter, rise - come into my Will. I chose you amid thousands and thousands, so that my Will may have full completion in you, and you may be like an iris of peace which, from its seven colors, draws others to live life in my Will….

For me the rainbow is a reminder,

It tells me that I don't have to be afraid of the rain, of the darkness, because after the clouds I will find the light even more beautiful than usual, made of many colors.

It tells me that I can let this beauty enter my soul, and not just look at it and leave it on the horizon.

It tells me that I must not always and only look down on the earth, but that, Jesus has designed the sky for me and that I must know it and show it to others by calling them to His Love, in His Will because, to create a rainbow, the light breaks into millions of fragments, it does not remain in itself.

It may seem like living in the dark, but it is not so.

You can walk under a grey sky, but with serenity in your soul, knowing that even tears are precious because they make the Light reflect better, creating new rainbows.

Look upon the rainbow, and praise him who made it, exceedingly beautiful in its brightness. It encircles the heaven with its glorious arc;  the hands of the Most High have stretched it out (Sirach 43:11-13).
